After he got another drink, a double this time, Miguel looked around the room for Alicia. At first he didn’t see her anywhere; then a crowd of men laughed, and a few of them moved around, and he caught a glimpse of her, standing in the middle of the group, laughing. She had taken off her jacket, so that now she was wearing only an olive green spaghetti-strapped dress, made of some sort of silky fabric that shimmered when she moved.
It was obvious from the simple lines of the dress that she also took very good care of herself, since she was only slightly curvier than she had been twenty years ago. And the simple gold necklace that she wore around her neck drew attention to her neck and shoulders, which had always been some of her most attractive features. Of course, her cleavage was also eye-catching, especially since the style of the dress did not allow for her to be wearing a bra, and her nipples poked ever so slightly into the fabric.
Miguel felt his mouth go dry… he licked his lips and took another gulp from his drink.
“No!” He sternly told himself, “I will not make this easy for her, not this time…not ever again!”

Once again Fiona McGier brings us another salsa-hot segment in the history of this Hispanic family. She has a way of sharing the Reyes family’s love and exciting passion for life…the kind of passion that keeps a large family together sharing their love and compassion for one-another. It’s the type of family you wouldn’t mind belonging to yourself.

Miguel Reyes, just turning thirty-eight, decides at the very last moment to attend his high school reunion. It wasn’t with the idea of seeing his long-lost high school sweetheart. He’d given up on her years ago…but there she was, and it wasn’t just his body that betrayed him. He fought his memories of just how much he wanted her. She had been his very first teenage lover. He still wanted her with every fiber of his being. It took every bit of his determination to turn his back on her and just walk away.
When her condominium burns down, he spies her weeping on the sidewalk, and this time he cannot turn his back on her. He gathers her up and takes her to his own apartment. There he discovers that twenty years of denial simply isn’t working. This wasn’t the end of it, although his entire family warned him not to let her hurt him again; that Alicia Torres simply wasn’t worth all the pain.
Miguel and Alicia both struggle to overcome their personal fears of rejection and destructive relationships. They each have problems that seem destined to keep them apart. This is a well-written story about how they each face their personal fears, and finally become a family unit.

Miguel has been playing the field for the last 20 years, looking for a love to match that of his high school sweetheart, who left to find a way to break away from the sad marriage of her parents. Her mother has told her never to fall in love with a Hispanic man, who will keep her pregnant while he consorts with other women, and beats her when he gets home. She even marries, thinking to distance herself from Miguel, and has a child, hoping to create the fairy tale life she has always hoped for. When she finally escapes the loveless marriage and reconnects with Miguel at their 20th high school reunion, she is drawn back to her abusive ex-husband who is dying of ALS.
I actually have a friend who went back to her divorced husband to care for him as he was dying. The acrimony from the divorce fell by the wayside as human caring for another person became more important than post-divorce hostilities. It is difficult enough to be a caregiver to one that you love, but infinitely harder, braver and more selfless to do such a thing for someone you used to love. McGier hit the emotions on the head with this situation.
The characterization is excellent in Love Therapy; even the love of a child is shown very realistically. Some novelists seem to not really understand the motivations and heart of a little one, but I can tell that McGier has had, or knows well, a four year old.
As I said in another review of McGier's books, I love this family and look forward to more Reyes stories.

This installment of the Reyes Family Romance was a sweet endearing love story.
The Reyes family has a history of falling in love and staying in love. This story really proved that theory. Love Therapy is a testament to true everlasting love.
Miguel Reyes is a man looking for his true love. Unfortunately he’s looking for her in feisty independent women who have no interest of settling down. As his twentieth class reunion looms he reflects on his lack of love life and family. He had it once, but lost it twenty years ago.
Alicia Torres stole and broke Miguel’s heart, not once but twice. She moved on and started a career in nursing miles away from her home town. She runs from him because of her past. She has no desire to relive the life of her mother. Fear makes her run, but regret makes her return. She attends her class reunion with one hope in mind…reconnecting with her one and only true love, Miguel.
What can I say about this story? It was a romance through and through. No real evil plots or dastardly deeds. Love Therapy was just heartfelt romance and the proof that love can endure all, even time and separation.
You can’t help but fall in love with Miguel and Alicia. It is actually heartbreaking that they lost so many years and opportunities because of misconceptions and untruths. If I had a complaint about the book it would be all the sugar sweet talking. I may have to go to the dentist after reading this story. Boy, those two were the most enamored, kissy-kissy characters I have ever come across. Though in all fairness, Miguel has loved her most his life and he finally has her and Alicia has past pain and a terrible childhood to overcome. They truly both deserve their happiness.
