He is Noah embodies the pain and struggle of the author and her brother. Living with a person with a disability, which is defined by the world, but, not by those involved, is a hard road to travel. T.S. Wilkins takes the reader down a journey few know about and most would never want to experience. The thing is, the capacity to love transcends all things and the author expresses that love for her brother on every page.
Love is the binding glue that brings us together. Many times when there is someone with a disability that glue gets weakened. Only when you add more, does it become strong again. The author says that her brother is a superhero, but, I believe that he would say the same about her. Nobility comes in all shapes and sizes. It is truly an act of love to be there for someone who can't function in the normal world.
But, what is normal? Do you think those who taunt those who are different from themselves are normal? Or is the normal person the one who holds their head up high and struggles on, even though the odds are stacked against them? I tend to think that the latter is the normal one. Courage comes in all shapes and forms. It takes more courage to strive with a disability, no matter the circumstances.
Poetry is the ultimate expression of the soul and is seen through the eyes of the beholder. T.S. Wilkins expresses her deepest anxieties and sadness through her poems. Yet there is a strength that flows from them as well. It tells the tale of two warriors struggling against a dragon made up of ignorance and fear of what society deems normal. There are two superheroes in this book and the love they give to each other should be imitated by the rest of society. If the rest of the world would exhibit the love these two warriors do, the world would be a better place.
