Danice’s poetry was truly an eye opener.
Share She displayed the trials, the struggles, and the strength of a young girl coming of age.
The book starts off with a poem titled, “Voluntary Violation,” in which she writes about a young girl who gets her innocence violently stripped from her.
Throughout the book, she expresses her pains, mistreatment from men, and depression in a way I never heard anyone articulate. Her poems are strong, heartfelt, and emotional. Reading this memoir shows you life in her eyes.
It is as if, for a moment, you are there with her wanting to help and comfort her but all you can do is watch.
You could feel the violation she felt when she was raped, her loneliness when she wandered the streets of Virginia, the frustration she felt behind bars.
You could feel the aggression she had not only toward others but herself as well.
Each poem tells you not just her story but also the story of many young women in the world that struggles with anger, depression, heartbreak, and despair.
It was definitely an experience. I would recommend to all readers, especially young women between the ages of 13 and 19.

Share Many women face issues of rape, drug use, and even doing jail time.
Some overcome such trials and tribulations while don’t.
Often, women who survive trying times are able to continue life as though they never faced these situations while riding all remnants of their past life from their present. However, some special women begin a new life free of all ills and reach back to save a young girl that, with a few wrong decisions, can become a hurting and broken woman.
One extraordinary woman who reached back is Cleveland author and poet, Keli Danice.
“It was a story that needed to be heard,” said Danice when asked what inspired her to write a book that reveals so much about her personal life. “It wasn’t hard letting people into my personal life because I’ve never been a private person. And, I’m very comfortable with what I’ve written.”
“My Nemesis: The Memoir of Keli Danice” is a beautiful collection of poetry drawn from her own and the lives of those around her. She discusses several topics, within the book, that are prevalent among women such as rape, love, abuse, happiness, and abortion.
“The book helped me get over a lot of painful events,” she said.
“My Nemesis” is certainly a must read for all women and will definitely give men some insight into the life of Danice as well as many females who suffer from the same problems. Men may even discover a new found understanding for women within the text.
“You can apply my poems to everyday life. I want to let young girls know you don’t have to go through this. I want to be the voice for those that are still dealing with these issues.”
Danice identified her favorite poems as “Sacrificing Happiness,” “My Quiet Storm,” “We Are All Witnesses,” and “Dreams Deferred.”
In “Sacrificing Happiness,” Danice writes about one of her former co-workers and the struggle for finding happiness. “My Quiet Storm” and “We Are All Witnesses” discuss the predicaments we often face in Cleveland.
Finally, “Dreams Deferred” speaks about relationships and hopefully sends the message that love isn’t supposed to hurt.
Her memoir, “My Nemesis,” was named after alter ego Cherokee Slim.
Slim was the bad girl who once lived inside Danice. Despite the trials she’s faced, Slim is nowhere to be found when you meet Danice, today. A young, vibrant and established woman, Danice is still open to the council of other poets and authors.
She is also in the process of authoring and self-publishing another work.
A jovial Danice is very proud of her poetry and wants readers to know it.
“I am not what you read in the book. I’m happy!” she said.
