Okay, here's what happened: while waiting in a doctor's office, I started reading this collection of cartoons. You've heard of “LOL”, the teenyboppers' texting abbreviation for laugh out loud, right? Well, I actually LOL'ed. In public. Really. See, at first, I was just reading away and grinning madly, but then the LOL happened. Other patients stared at me so I sheepishly held up my copy of Corbett's book for them to see.
They say puns are “the lowest form of humor” but I don't agree with that. My take is that puns require a great deal of intelligence to come up with. And appreciate. But Barry Corbett doesn't just deliver puns in his cartoons; he combines the puns with a special, ingeniously edgy wit. These cartoons are definitely quirky. If you like John Mc Pherson's CLOSE TO HOME and Greg Larson's THE FAR SIDE, then you'll love REVENGE OF THE PUN!.
Barry Corbett's cartoons have been featured in THE NEW YORKER and READER'S DIGEST, as well as over twenty other major publications. A Great Collection of Cartoon Puns - Recommended

"Revenge of the Pun!" is a collection of single frame cartoons based on puns. To make it clear right up front, I am a serious fan of puns and often finding myself making them all of the time, even occasionally when they might not be exactly appropriate, so jumped at the offer when given a chance to review this book.
The author, Barry Corbett, is a freelance cartoonist who's work has appeared in several major magazines. This collection of some 180 cartoons is packed full of puns, some that hit me square on and really tickled my funny bone, while a few others took me a bit to "get".
This is a great quick read that lends itself to being picked up and read (or re-read) at a any place in the book. It is also appropriate for all age groups, which is a welcome change these days.
Recommended! "Revenge of the Pun!" is a sequel to Embrace the Pun, which I have not yet read.

The pun, both the best and worst form of humor. "Revenge of the Pun!" is the follow up to Barry Corbett's previous book of cartoons, Embrace the Pun!, a collection of cartoons that illustrate just how punny Corbett can be. Humorous with plenty of entertainment value, "Revenge of the Pun!" is a fun and hard to put down read for the lover of pun.
