Global's huge military softwre program is the prime target for thieves, saboteurs, and terrorists. In their hand, this software would spell untold riches, unlimited power, and the possible destruction of the United States.
Mike Welling's job as Technical Security Chief is to make sure that no unauthorized software leaves company property.
But . . . another company has secretly managed to steal every module of the military program; all they need is the assembler/ compiler to put it all together. But getting this final piece of the puzzle has proved difficult . . . until now.
Following an auto accident, Welling discovers that he is carrying an implant whose purposed is unknown. As his suspicions are confirmed, he is torn between a desire to foil the scheme himself, or to hand the task over to his superiors and the authorities. Unfortunately, his ego and proud company standing prevent him from choosing the latter.
To further complicate matters, he learns that the new woman in his life has a few secrets of her own.

He finished his work, gathered his paraphernalia, nodded to me then left the room. I relaxed only a moment before he was replaced by an older lady with a clipboard.
"The doctor will be in to see you in a few moments. How are we feeling?"
I answered that I didn't know about her, but I had been better. She ignored my answer, which confirmed what I had known all along; she didn't really dive a damn how I felt. Maybe if I told her my leg had fallen off, I might have gotten a reaction, but I doubt it. Anyway I humored her by giving her information about my insurance and a brief medical profile. She flipped through her stack of forms, had me sign a couple of places and when satisfied that she had filled in all the blanks, she wished me well and left.
