Retreat to a wild island on the rugged Atlantic coast of Ireland was to be a chance to take skock of a life spent in study of the complexities of modern science and their intersection with philosophical thought.
But the life of the island could not be kept aloof from the wild excursions of the mind.
This Irish novel is both moving and illuminating and at times testing.
