The 1987 Venice Economic Summit is the backdrop for a plot that might change the course of the Cold War. David Young, a classical musician, and his doctor wife Allison must not only stop the conspiracy, but save the life and sanity of their friend Richard, head of Security for the summit.

David Young, a classical musician and composer, was honored to be asked to perform before the heads of state at the 1987 Venice Economic Summit. But soon, along with his doctor wife, Allison, he is plunged into a conspiracy to change the course of the Cold War.
The conspiracy, which had its origins seventeen years before in a horrible mind control experiment in Hanoi, seems to center around David's friend Richard, head of security for the summit. Not only is the fate of the world at stake, but the life and sanity of David's friend.

Excerpt

"I still play the Nocturne sometimes, late at night, when Allison is not there to hear. But she finds me at it occasionally, and it disturbs her."
"We are taught that history is the result of the concert of nations, the decisions of great leaders, the sweeping tide of technological progress and of social change. Yet I think too that the course of history can be determined by the sheerest of accidents. For I know with a terrifying certainty that had we not been in Venice that summer's week, had we not met my friend Richard Mannheim at Harry's Bar for lunch, that the world we live in today would be a far different place. Possibly it would not even exist.
The music is at its worst when I think about that. Not even I can bear to listen to it for long.'
