A team of Islamic terrorists aim to blackmail the US government by detonating a nuclear bomb.

Excerpt

From East Wind by Jack Winnick:

Uri and Lara sat across the table from each other n the small lunchroom. They had grown into a certain easiness with each other, but there had been no romance; it had remained all business. Lara noted with a slight smile that Uri had given up his Mossad-style short-sleeve, open-neck shirt for the more FBI-style pale blue long-sleeve version, complete with muted tie, and even added the dark blue jacket. At least he didn't stand out like Lawrence of Arabia, or the Israeli version of him.
…Usually in a criminal investigation, the agents had at least one crime to use as a paradigm. Here they had nothing but a threat, and a veiled one at that. "Stop all aid to Israel or suffer the bombings of American cities." …They all hated to think it, let alone say it, but if they only had an incident, however small, that they could work backward from...
Uri was drinking his usual black tea, Lara her lightened coffee, when the omnipresent CNN program on the television set suddenly went into its "Breaking News" mode. Just about everyone stopped and watched, at first with only mild interest; probably just another Anna Nicole type thing...

about everyone stopped and watched, at first with only mild interest; probably just another Anna Nicole type thing...
The voice of the blond newswoman was shaking as she read the paper in front of her. On the split-screen, a huge outdoor fire could be seen blazing away. This video feed brought everyone in the lunch room to full attention. "We have just been in formed that a blast, presumably a bomb, has felled a number of buildings in the fashionable Marina del Rey district on the west side of Los Angeles. There are casualties, but it is not yet known the extent of the deaths, injuries or damage to the city. As of now, and this is very preliminary, the damage appears to be limited to the pleasure-boat harbor called "Marina del Rey..." She paused at this obvious redundancy, then regained her composure. "...and about ten surrounding blocks. Eyewitnesses report seeing a 'mushroom cloud' over the area, giving rise to speculation of a nuclear device, but the chief of police has assured us that there is no evidence of such a device, and that it is most likely that a warehouse containing paint and solvents, common in this area, was the source of the explosion. Investigators, as well as emergency medical teams are already on the scene, and the police assure us there will be further announcements as they become available."
"Jesus Christ," someone in the lunchroom muttered quietly. Cell phones were out and buzzing all over the room. Chairs scraped the floor and fell over as agents hurried to their offices. Lara and Uri just looked at each other. Each knew what the other was thinking: you wanted an incident, you got one.

Culver City News
Lauren Bottner--Culver City News
In this international thriller, he (Jack Winnick) weaves his engineering expertise with a love of Israel, and the result is a page-turner that couldn't be timelier.Set in 2013 following a deadly nuclear terrorist explosion in Los Angeles...East Wind is Jack's voice, his message to the world about the current state of affairs. East Wind thrills the reader with intrigue and suspense, but leaves a growing know of fear in a world where the plot hits a little too close to home.
