What are the goals we have in life? There are many diverging opinions on the subject, but nothing that could be said to be definitely true. However, the actions taken during our lives are always related to only two truly overarching goals: survival and procreation. Nothing surprising here, it’s exactly the same as with any other animal.
Bringing this simple yet oft overlooked reality to life could clear up several aspects of human behavior, thus demystifying theories and significantly improving our understanding of each other.
The comparison presented here with different daily situations is a simple exercise, yet it contains many instructive lessons. Despite this being a work of fiction, the concepts expressed herein are real and even somewhat pointed. It’s up to each individual to examine them and come to his or her own conclusions. That is the challenge.
Today’s accelerating advances in technology, daily increasing amount of available information, frenetic pace of life and shrinking planet due to the ease of travel and virtual communications are all factors that contribute to a sense that we are steadily evolving.
Still, with competition growing more savage, time growing shorter by the day and the enormous amount of information available for us to learn cause us to live ever more turbulent and artificial lives.
All the problems we are experiencing, such as environmental degradation, climate change, overpopulation, heightened urbanization and increases in reckless consumer spending are the result of distancing ourselves from our animal nature.
We are confusing our animal nature with something pejorative, vulgar or lesser. The truth of the matter is if we don’t realize that we need to understand and preserve it we will be distancing ourselves even more from the laws of nature. Can it be that distancing ourselves from the laws of nature is the correct evolutionary path?
See in this work of fiction an alternate view that seeks to clarify the basics aspects governing human lives. Reflecting on these may even tune us in closer to our great progenitor: Mother Nature.
