I define cancer as essentially initially formed of once normal human cells, with identifying DNA that has mutated in some way to become abnormal then mutated even more to become cancerous in nature. The cancerous cells may be benign, meaning that they cannot spread throughout the body to other cells, or malignant, meaning that the cells are mobile and have the ability to spread to other areas of the body. A primary cancer is one that started in the cells/tissue where it exists, while a secondary cancer arises as a result of the metastasis of malignant cancer cells. The main causes of normal human cells turning into cancer cells include the environment in which one works and resides, personal habits, and inherited genetic variations. Cancerous cells initially were at one point normally functioning cells of the human body before mutating in someway to change and turn into cancer cells. With this in mind we can more easily understand the many different types of cancers that exist. The two main types of cancer can be classified as benign or malignant in nature. Cancer can also be classified as localized, which means that a tumor is confined to one area or may have only spread to nearby tissues and organs; or classified a metastic cancer which is able to spread throughout the entire body having reached the lymphatic system. Carcinoma is a cancer of the skin or lining of the internal organs, while sarcoma begins in fat, bone, cartilage, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective/supportive tissue. Leukemia is a cancer of blood forming tissue. Lymphoma and myeloma are cancers of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers occur in the brain and spinal cord. With this understanding of cancer we know that it consists of what were once normal human cells that have mutated in some way, now functioning improperly, and may cause harm to other cells of the body at some point if the cancer becomes malignant. Cancer cells are renowned for dividing, multiplying, and conquering other healthy human cells as the immune system has failed to recognize the cancer cells as foreign since they started as once healthy human cells or the immune response was simply ineffective. In short cancer cells can be noted as once normal cells that have mutated as a result of genetic inheritance or environmental/outside factor to become cancerous in nature.
