Dark Heaven groaned in pain. Her wound was not fatal, but it could have been if Taegrid did not concern himself with the hostage situation.
“Where’s your buddy?” Taegrid whispered to the groaning assassin lying near an unconscious Coralline. She laughed in response and reached for her kukri. Taegrid put a second arrow between her eyes and ended her career.
“You’ll never kidnap another child,” Taegrid growled. Then he felt the coldness of a metal object along with a sharp pain in his back and then a warm sensation running down his back before darkness took him. Taegrid collapsed to the mud next to the dead assassin, dropping his bow as he fell. The slam of his body into the mud helped keep him awake long enough to feel a burning pain coursing through his veins and the other cloaked assassin lean down to pick up Coralline. He turned and looked at Taegrid from the shadows of his hooded cloak.
“I will however, kidnap the child. Your friends will not find you in time. The lizard men will see to that even if they are defeated and I will be long gone. If your friends ever do catch up to me, and I hope for the girl’s sake that they do, I mean to kill them as I have killed you. The poison is painful yes? I have to thank you for killing my colleagues though, now I don’t have to share the payout on the contract.” Mez hissed before he turned and ran off into the darkness with the helpless little girl. Taegrid cried for her. He did not care if he died.
