An undercover DEA agent succumbs to an internal integrity sting. Is acquitted but relegated to the status of confidential informant.
When disillusionment sets in after several harrowing undercover operations and a failed romance, Dante Falconieri is targeted by his Agency with a sting to test his integrity. He falls for the bait and is arrested. Acquitted in court with the help of his attrorney, he tracks down an assassin set to murder him and disrupts a drug importation ring. The Agency can't reinstate him but offers him an alternative as a 'confidential'.

The sound of a fist pounding on the door of the room in the
Skyport Motel roused Sonny from the bed where he lounged,
resting against the headboard. Game show re-runs flickered
across the TV screen. The faint thump of rap music seeped
into the room from the otherwise ominous quiet of the corridor
outside, while a 747 departing from Kennedy Airport rumbled
out over Jamaica Bay through clear skies.
He brushed his dark hair back, tucked his t-shirt into his
chino slacks and padded across the carpeted floor in bare feet
toward the door.
“Who is it?”
“Police, open up.”
Sonny snapped the lock, rasped the security chain and
opened the door.
“What is it? What do you guys want?” he asked in the
remnant of an Italian accent.
The three men crowded the doorway. The closest to him
flashed a sergeant’s shield. He snarled, his voice like footsteps
on gravel: “You Sonny Marchese?”
“Yeah, who wants to know?”
All three men pushed into the room.
“Why are you shoving me? What did I do?”
“Shut up,” the sergeant said. He turned to the two others
with him. “George, Rick, you two toss the room. We’re
looking for guns, money, narcotics, whatever’s here.”
Sonny’s eyes widened. “Hey, I got no gun, no money,
there’s no drugs here. You guys got no warrant anyway.”
During a rough search of the room, the intruders emptied
the closet, dumping clothing on the floor. They yanked out
