Ramblings, Musings and Other Things is comprised of a group of stories and poems about the decisions we make in life every day and the course our lives take because of them. It is about the hopes and dreams that we can have as humans and the obstacles we must overcome to reach those goals.

My hand trembled as I punched the number into the phone. It was a wonder that I could remember it. It had been so long since I’d dialed it. But, I couldn’t trust anyone else. I had lost everything, my credibility, my dignity, my security.
But, I was in trouble, and I could only depend on him. He, of course, wouldn’t understand at first. It had been at least ten years since we’d had any contact with one another. Our lives had moved on, in completely different directions.
He was probably too busy. He wouldn’t be able to devote five minutes to the problem at hand. He wouldn’t hear me out. I had hurt him too. But, sometimes time heals wounds that were so present before. I couldn’t know if he would help me, but I had to try.
I waited while the phone rang. When it went to the answering machine, I was surprised not to hear a woman’s voice alongside his. Maybe he was single now. But, I couldn’t expect him to be. He had most likely moved on. I had too, at least I had for awhile. At least until everything fell apart, until the police came looking for me and my family refused to take my calls. But, I hadn’t intended for any of that to happen. Who knew that doing the right thing would go so horribly wrong?
With a deep breath, I left a brief message and detailed where he could reach me, and then I hung up quickly. I didn’t know if he would call back. I didn’t know if I even deserved to hear from him. I just knew that I had to trust someone, and he was my last hope.
