It is Jordie's first day of pre-school. She's excited and ready to go. That is, until she gets to school and sees all the children. Now, she's ready to go home.
Her mommy hands her a small picture of herself for Jordie to look at whenever she gets nervous. Jordie places it in her pocket for safe keeping. Slowly, Jordie starts to relax and within no time she's having lots of fun. She plays dolls and blocks during center time, she listens to her teacher read her a story from a big red book, and she sits beside her new friend, Sue during snack time.
By the time her mommy comes to get her, she can't wait to come back again.

"Jordie stuffs her small, pink book bag,
with pencils, crayons and notebook paper.
Then she zips it up, following the zigzag.
All set to go with her book bag on,
she stands by the door and waits for Mommy.
Then she waves goodbye to her goldfish, Ron."
On her first day of school, Jordie excitedly dresses herself, gathers her book bag, and says goodbye to her fish on the way out the door. She sees a big bus filled with children when she and her mother arrive at school. When the time arrives for Jordie to go into the classroom, however, going to school does not seem like such a good idea. Jordie asks her mother if she can home. After her mother reassures her, Jordie begins her first day and finds out how much fun school can be.
Any child's first day at school can be a frightening and intimidating experience. From the moment I opened Jordie’s School Day Adventure, I knew that this was going to be one of Ms. Leese’s best. Everyone knows the fear of that first day of school and Ms. Leese captures this very well.
It is Jordie’s first day of pre-school. To ease her apprehensions, her mother tucks a tiny picture of herself into Jordie’s hand. Throughout the day, if she wants to ‘see’ her mother, all she has to do is open her hand and there she is. A wonderful idea!
Jordie goes about her day singing along with her teacher, enjoying reading time, and playing outside
happily with her new playmates. Ms. Leese captures the joy of learning, while showing children that school is not so bad after all.
An excellent book for children just starting school!
Jordie’s School Day Adventure will capture the hearts of children all over. I enjoyed the beautiful words of Ms. Leese and would highly recommend it for children from pre-school to beginning readers.
