The story of a dysfunctional military family in the mid 20th century and how a daughter makes her peace with her stepfather.
As a military brat, Beth had to learn to find her own way to deal with her childhood with a demanding and abusive stepfather. World War II soldiers came home from the war with emotional and mental wounds they transferred to their wives and children in many cases. It wasn't talked about, therapy was not an option: who had even heard of it. People dealt with life as best they could and hid their feelings and thoughts about what had happened to them.
