Creepy Without Being Revolting,
What a brilliant surprise! The story revolves around a black ship and the people who must have her. It had just the right amount of creepy; enough to make me watch the shadows, but be able to turn out the lights. The characters struggled with their dark sides enough to make me inspect mine.
About halfway through the book I was happy to find I couldn't put it down. I read a lot of indie books and there have been only a handful that stoked the page turning passion.
Many of my favorite book elements were at play here: I love ocean adventures, a good mystery, tales of old schooners, ghosts, tragedy, suspense and relationship drama.

Do you believe in ghosts? The Devil? Rivers' created powerful and believable characters who sailed the Black Witch to the depths of despair and beyond. They were not all human. The Black Witch had me reaching out to touch something real more than once. Balasco will scare you to the tips of your toes! Is he real or not?
You'll shake your head in disgust at the lengths we humans will go to "have it all." Does good win over evil? Not always. The Black Witch picks and chooses who wins and who loses. Rivers casts a spell that lingers long after the last page.
P.S. If you have to go outside after dark, take a flashlight, a BIG one! Great read, highly recommended!

Having read Verliege by Micheal I ordered black witch and was not disappointed. I loved the way it really draws you in and as in Verliege I could picture the scenes and characters in my head and could imagine it being a really great film. I raced through the pages towards the end because I just had to know what happened. Sometimes I find endings of books very disappointing but with Micheal's books this is NEVER the case and I am always satisfied when I come to the end. Now for the next book to read 'Moonlight on the Nantahala '. Cant wait to get started! Read it people if you love a good supernatural story, its brill!
