Excerpt
Travis put in the disc and started the video. There in living color Valeska and Marc sat on the couch eating popcorn and watching a movie. Suddenly the glass from the skylight was raining down.
Valeska was on her feet and had a gun in hand, as a figure flew down in front of them. Marc was slower to react but had managed to arm himself before the second assailant, Dorian, appeared.
The other attacker went for Valeska. She screamed in anger and fear as she emptied the gun. Dorian engaged Marc who managed to keep the stronger vampire at bay. The first vampire screamed back at Valeska, “You belong to me!”
She shook her head. “Never!”
He lunged for her; they could hear him hiss like an animal. They watched as Valeska bared fangs at the intruder. It was like a clap of thunder as they came together in battle.
The vampire struck her with a right hook and knocked her across the room. She seemingly flew back across tackling him. She scratched and clawed trying to get at the soft throat.
Marcus reached into a box on the sofa table and pulled a vial. He tossed the contents into Dorian’s face. The younger vampire screamed in agony and threw Marcus across the room. Dorian leaped over his unconscious form out the window.
Valeska picked up a large easy chair with one hand and threw it at the older vampire. He was enraged as he leaped on her pinning her to the floor. “You are of my blood! You are a true blood vampire. Give up this human foolishness!”
She gathered strength and kicked him off across the room. As furniture splintered, she regained her feet. “I’m not a monster, you are! I have a choice and my choice is to be human!”
He got to his feet, laughing. “Stupid girl! There is no choice, you are what you are. You are half a monster! Look into the mirror see your true self. I am your father, I can accept it, but can he?”
He pointed to Marcus who was trying to regain his wits. Valeska looked at Marc seeing him injured the sadness filled her eyes as it filled her soul. She looked back at her father, the man she had run from for hundreds of years. “It doesn’t matter. I will not be a part of your legacy.”
She saw the anger and promise of pain in her father’s eyes. “Then you will die, I am done with you! I should have killed your mother instead of taking her.”
He ran, almost too fast to be seen but she moved with equal speed behind him. He turned his head which exposed just enough of his neck. Valeska grabbed him from behind and bit down into that soft giving flesh and began to drink him down. He screamed in frustration and clawed at her grasp on him, but he couldn’t get a firm hold on her from behind.
Alex watched as the woman he had made love to drank the blood of her father to weaken him. He could see her beautiful eyes go black and her nails extend and dig into the flesh of her victim.
Valeska drank as much as she could stomach, enough to weaken him. He fell to the floor and she grabbed a broken chair leg and pierced his heart. He screamed and she screamed wordlessly with him.
Marcus had managed to get to his feet. Valeska appeared over her dying father with a hatchet. Marcus stood and watched as she removed the head. She looked up at him, her eyes black, face covered in blood.
“Go, run away, Marcus. He’s right I am a monster. Go!”
Marcus stood his ground. She lunged at him for good measure trying to scare him off.
He shook his head. “Like you said you have a choice. Whichever one you make I’m not going anywhere.”
She paced him like a wild cat circling its prey, still he didn’t move. Giving in, she sank to the floor screaming wordlessly in physical and mental pain. Marc sat and held her as she cried and screamed.
Marc ejected the disc. “This is just a taste of what she is capable of. That night a part of her died. She became even more withdrawn from the world. I will not leave her but I know what to expect. I don’t expect you to be able to handle all this and really, she doesn’t either. Valeska made her choice. I made mine. Now you make yours.”
