Hannibal kept his eyes on the stranger as he pushed the door closed. He could almost feel his irises widening, adjusting to the darkness. The man behind the automatic had military-short hair. His tight, angular face looked as if someone had assembled it from a number of flat planes. The eyes were a sharp, piercing blue, like ice chips set into the ruddy face. This man would think nothing of killing Hannibal. The silencer attached to the barrel of his nine millimeter Browning Hi-power said that he might even get away after doing so.
“Remove your coat,” the stranger said. Hannibal considered the situation and decided that if this fellow wanted him dead he already would be, so he had nothing to lose.
“Say please.”
The stranger smiled then, a cold, hard smile, and leaned back in Hannibal’s chair. “Please.”

This is a fast paced, twisting mystery! If you like the Alex Cross series by James Patterson you will like this series as well!
The writing is tight and crisp with a tone perfect for a private investigator mystery. In addition to the solid mystery, the author does a wonderful job with background descriptions including details of the smells and sights surrounding Hannibal.
This was my first Hannibal Jones read but won't be my last. Although it is part of a series I found it was fine to jump into this book. It is a very good PI mystery thriller!

The Hannibal Jones books just get better and better. In the beginning I wasn't too sure about this one. Mr. Camacho states in the first chapter that his friends and neighbors--Sarge, Virgil and Quaker--wouldn't be helping him on this case. My first thought was "Oh No!" but it was great without them. The tangle of Russian, Algerian, Liberian and Moroccan characters were interesting, the plot was excellent and it was a rough and tumble as the first four books. Don't miss it!
