Frank couldn't believe what he'd heard. Lots of folks hated the black people. But, to kill Old William? He never even spoke to anyone so how could he get into trouble? Moreover, hadn't he searched the hardest, looking for the Peters' children? A raging anger rushed through his body.
"Why, Pa?" he shouted. "Why would someone kill that old slave?" Tears sprang up into his eyes."I'll kill the person who did this. I'll kill him." He pounded the wooden seat beside him with his fists. "Why did we ever come on this trip? I hate it here." Tears rolled down his face. "I want to go home. I want to go home with my mother."
