What was that? Footsteps behind her? Still trotting, she twisted about only to collide with something in front. A man! Rough arms encircled her before she could react, and her senses were assaulted by strange odors. He reeked of stale sweat and something smoky sweet.
She pushed against his chest, but he held her tight, his eyes locked with hers. The slanting moonlight illuminated one side of his face, shining on his eyes. Otherworldly eyes. Could it be? Shining through them! The irises seemed transparent, like water, and the face was like none she'd evertr imagined, not even in wild dreams.
Then everything went black.
