Jason sized it up with one quick look--a man with experience. "How bad is it?" He motioned me into his garage workshop, glancing in at the bucket seats to see what needed a fast scrubdown.
"I'm fine, I claimed. "Looks are deceiving."
"Yeah, right--Th' other guy DOA?"
"No, but that mightabeen a mistake."
Handing me a scrub brush and soap, he pointed to the metal washbasin on the back wall. "Get after it, then. Man, you don't mess around, do you? Waddayabeen out of the hospital now--'bout six hours?! Jeez Marie!"
"Snooze and lose. It's my fight, Jay. They took it out on Stacey. Didn't you know that?"
My friend stood frozen in place, face turning from shock to hardened resolve. "Damn them! What happened?!"
