Immy, eager PI assistant, wants to be on her own. She finds a rental house where her four-year-old daughter, Nancy Drew Duckworthy, and Drew's pet pig, Marshmallow, are allowed. The rumors are that the house is haunted. It's no rumor there's a dead man in the bathtub when she inspects the house, though.
Excerpt
Chapter One
Immy was sure her boss would approve, but she had to be careful how she worded her request. Mike Mallet, Private Investigator, had once fired her for taking too much time away from her job with him. She had been working on her own cases, but he seemed to take a dim view of that.
She knocked on his open door. “Mr. Mallet?”
His look was pained. “What’s with the Mr. Mallet? It’s usually trouble when you don’t call me Mike.”
“My appointment is for four o’clock. It’s the only time she had available.” A negative look hardened his narrow weasel face. “My filing is all done and the bills are in my purse. I’ll mail them before I have my meeting.”
“Oh, all right. But I need a full day from you tomorrow. I’ll be doing surveillance and I’m expecting a few calls.”
Immy assured him she would be at her desk promptly at nine, grabbed her jacket, and skipped out.
Her car was parked in the next block since she’d gotten in a little late this morning and there had been no spaces in front of Mike’s office. She flew past the travel agency next door without even glancing at the posters and longing to be somewhere warmer.

Quirky Quick Read
I read CHOKE and now BROKE. I just love Imogene, the protagonist. She stumbles and bumbles along in her attempt to be a detective. This story is a mixture of cute and quirky. A cozy mystery with a haunted house and - lucky for Immy - a dependable policeman who has his heart set on her. Even if you don't like pigs, you'll fall in love with Marshmallow, the pot-bellied pig, and the relationship between the pig and Immy's daughter Drew.
Delightfully quirky
In the latest installment, she moves into a new home and defends her recently-discovered uncle when he is accused of murder. This was a fun read and I enjoyed my visit with Immy as she tackles her uncle's case and the incidences that seem to be happening around her new home. The author did a good job in keeping me on my toes as I wanted to know what happens next in this quirky romp in Saltlick and Wymee Falls, Texas. It was good to see her mother, her adorable four-year daughter and the stable presence of her friend Ralph. I hope there are more adventures to come with Immy and the gang.
Cute Story with Some Great Ideas
This was a cute story that set a scene which I found really appealing. The story itself was well written, but maybe a little too drawn out in the middle. That being said, I really liked the idea of an old house full of old furniture and a ghost. It would have been cool if the ghost had a more prominent role in the book but I absolutely adored the pig - made me want to go out and get one! And I loved Imogene's laid back attitude and her mothers strange habit of using large words. Cute!
