Chapter 2 - Selecting a Mare to Breed From

Basically when you decide upon going into the breeding game it is governed by two areas, one is breeding to race and the other is breeding commercially for the sales. When breeding to race yourself you will need a reasonably performed mare perhaps a winner herself from a family producing winners, this generally sets the pattern in the dam line. Select a nice type of stallion with Group level performance behind him,(at least you know he can run) good bone structure, straight legs, good shoulder, girth and rump and an affordable service fee that you pay.
