Family lore past down through the generations in a Lawrence County, IN family.
Family legends are created daily by the families who live them. Each and every family has legends or tales of significance to their family members and friends. Many are simply passed down by word of mouth.
Those tales are told generation after generation within the family until the last person to hear the story frails to pass it on to the next. Once the person who knows the tale passes away the legend is forgotten and lost forever.
To preserve family legends reaquires that the information be recorded insome form for future generations to enjoy. After all, much of our recorded history began with someone's personal experiences that were recorded for all time.

Thomas Snow
Thomas Snow served in the Union during the Civil War. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, Snow served in the 32nd Regiment of the Kentucky Infantry. The regiment was engaged in guard and reconnaissance duty in the protection of Kentucky. The Regiment was mustered out in 1863.
Snow and his wife Charlotta Brown Snow moved from Wayne County, KY to the Huron, IN area. In a book entitled “Beaver Creek Memories” by Diana Kay Webb it states that Thomas Snow may have participated in some aspects in the lynching and burial of a man known as Bill Dunn.
Bill Dunn was supposedly a man who had been waiting in Huron, IN to jump on the next train. He had followed the depot agent home that evening and was found in the home stealing items. The depot agent gave chase and at some point the Dunn cut the agent with a knife and he bled to death. Before the agent expired he was able to summon for help and Dunn was identified by the agent’s widow as being the culprit.
Dunn was hanged on the location of the murder and his body was placed in a pine box. The box was carried away for burial by George Wolford and Frank Woods. Frank Woods danced a jig on the box before it was covered with dirt and it was said that Tom Snow also danced on the box although not everyone agreed that it happened that way.
Upon his death, Thomas Snow was buried in Huron, IN.
