Docker's life was going no where. He worked a dead end job and had no intention of making a change. From the sky came two bright lights, upheaval and confusion. Two forms from space landed on earth and Docker's life would never be the same.

Life in the modern world can be hard if you are unable to grab a purpose. Docker gave up looking and searched the sky on nights when he could not sleep, hoping for something to change.

One night, two stars appeared moving at a great speed. Taken by fear and awe, he watched as the stars became orbs, approaching him in the darkness.

Docker soon was face to face with two alien beings that were comprised of light. Strange was their appearance and more peculiar what they requested him to do. He had to chose then if he should aid them in their mission, unsure if he could ever go back to living his 'old' life.

Fiction with a little fantasy and philosophy, "RotG" is a quick and thought provoking read, dealing with human nature and purpose and individual identity...and aliens from a distant world.

Excerpt

Docker came down the stairs and rubbed his eyes into the kitchen. His father sat reading the newspaper; his mother was tapping a crossword puzzle. He sat and sighed. “Hi, Docky,” his mother smiled. “Son,” his father mumbled. For a minute Docker pushed on his face, until his mother looked up, “What time do you work today?”
“An hour, I don't know,” he said. His father snapped the paper with a roll of his wrists, “Better get ready,” but he remained seated and looked towards the stairs and the sound of a blow-drier. Doc said, “She's been in the bathroom for like fifty minutes. I had to go out of my window.” His mother slapped at his hand, “Docker, don't be gross.”
“Well,” he said, “she's been in there for an hour, what am I supposed to do?” His dad put the paper down and joked, “Tough one, let me think.” He weighed options on his fingers, “How about use our bathroom.” Docker changed, “Anyways, you know what?” His father ignored him asking, “Are you picking up any more hours?”
“Gah,” he blurted, “what do you think, I can just go in there and ask for whatever I want? They make out the schedule; they tell me when to work. Sure, I ask for more. Sure, I do because you are telling me to, but,” he went for a glass of water and returned saying, “but listen to this. Last night I was out in the field out back. You know, back there—I couldn't sleep, so I was just looking at the stars. This was before the moon was out.”
His dad ignored, “Before the moon, right.” He went on, “But it was dark and there were no clouds out and it was like I could see every star; I mean it was so dark I could even tell the difference between satellites and the real stars.” His mom went for toast. “Real stars,” he said, “and I was just looking up there and I noticed two really bright ones. So I started thinking and figured, 'Okay, maybe that one is Jupiter and that one is Venus,' because they were so bright.”
