In the year 1870, the small town of Toomswood is recovering from the after effects of the Civil War. They get a rude awakening when a wanted man from Mexico makes himself a home and tries to destroy what's left of the town.
What happens when a wanted man in Mexico flees the country to take on an oil purchase in a small town on the border of Mississippi and Alabama? The same thing that happens when the son of a recently departed sheriff of the small town along with the rest of the town tries to stop him, They battle in an all out bloody war. It is up to a young man by the name of Emerson Shaw along with the rest of the town to put a stop to Jones and his sinister agenda, from wreaking havoc and turning their home into a desolate ghost town.

Up ahead, the entrance to town had an unexpected visitor. Led by two black horses was a man in an old brown wagon. The wagon, freshly coated, seemed newly built. It had sort of a majestic look to it as it rode in.
The man read the sign and made a note to himself, Toomswood, Population 656. As he approached the town there was only one other person outside in Toomswood, a man by the name of Javier Jones, known as Bones to his men. Jones wore a black brim Stetson which sat on his greasy black medium length hair which went down to his neck

Western Horror
Justin Bienvenue delivers a twisting plot set in the post civil war era of gunfights and societal realignment. His characters present intrigue to engage the readers with the living and the dead who carry the reader through this story. The history, chaos and bloodshed of this time period entwines the path of Jones, who uses not only his innate perpetuation for violence but special talents he receives from Helmsfield to change the course of the small town. However, Bienvenue's venue is not prepared to allow this stranger to destroy them.

Yes, there are a few parts that were very slow and appear redundant; however there is nothing like the chaos of violence, supernatural and bloodshed set in a western town when the west truly was wild. A good read.
The Wild West with a Wild Twist!
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review, and here it is.
This book starts out setting the stage for the imaginative tale that soon unfolds, it is post civil war in a small southern town called Toomswood, a once thriving place you could be proud to call home, now over run with corruption and drunkards with nothing better to do than cause trouble. But still the townsfolk are a tight knit community which doesn't take kindly to strangers, but were also desperately seeking a way, anyway, to restore their small town to the once great place it had been many years ago. So when a stranger named Javier "bones" Jones, blew into town with the promises of putting them back on the map through undiscovered oil, right below the townsfolk's feet, they listened to what he had to say...that was their biggest mistake.
Like the title implies, there is a lot of blood shed in this book! The core of the book reads like a western; gun fights, fugitives, and plain old root n' tootin fun. A horror element is also thrown into the plot with the creation of an undead army, which really keeps things moving along rather nicely.
The character of Javier "bones" Jones is spot on with the writer's depiction of a Wild West figure as well as another character by the name of Roland Helmsfled. Now Helmsfled was my favorite character in the book. He is a mysterious and curious man that plays a big part in the story. He approaches Javier "bones" Jones with something that changes the course of all the lives, and deaths, of everyone involved in this imaginative tale.
So overall while I did find the first few chapters a bit stale and redundant, with some other passages that could have used a bit of rewrites, I think if you like your westerns with lots of blood, guts, and body parts thrown around, then this book is for you.
Hell on Wheels meets The Wild Wild West
I was gifted this book for an honest review
If you are looking for a bloody, gory read, this is the one for you. It is set in the old west right after the civil war. I was expecting the usual carpet bagger/land owner type feuds. Boy, did I get a surprise. This book goes from Mexico up into the United States and leaves a path of murder and mayhem along the way. This book is full of unwarranted violence and just downright craziness. The book actually lives up to the title.
On a side note, there was something I was not expecting in this book. I knew it was going to be bloody and gory, can't read the title and not know that. We actually had an army of the undead. Some of which were historical figures. That was definitely a different twist. There was also a murder for hire plot and backstabbing traitors. The book definitely delivered in the rough and gory department. I did not however care for the very end of the book.
There was a mystery person brought in at the end that was an interesting fellow. His identity was kept from the reader until the very last. I felt like that part was a little bit rushed. Other than that, if you want to get your gross on, read this book, it is a Bloody Mary mess.
