13 short tales of horror that take place in AZ. Has stories of ghosts and monsters.
This collection of 13 short horror stories seeks to explore the eerie stuff, the subtle feelings we feel when something is not right; there are no vampires, witches or werewolves, neither is there much gore. Its stories are more Twilight Zone-ish. Otherwise, they are completely original and unpredictable. All of them take place in Arizona and frequently draw upon the local lore.
Just a tid bit about the first 5 stories:
Salazar's Flamenco Dancer - An art history major does research on a local artist and learns about a disturbing pattern of death.
Hidden Canyon - An Apache boy, Para-ah-dee-ah-tran, comes face-to-face with a terror his elders didn't tell him about.
Chimera - A Phoenix woman is tormented by sleep paralysis.
Old Billy - Peter recounts his youth growing up near a cemetery.
The Wind in the Hollow - Something is amiss on the Gottlieb farm and Jakob must contend with spiritual things he doesn't yet understand.
The remaining stories contain a mix of ghosts and monsters. Two are urban legends of my own creation. Maybe you will retell them. My question to you: Will you be one of my midnight guests?
*PG-13. A couple of f-bombs and one rape scene. Typo-free. Active Table of Contents. Zero advertisements. DRM-free so you can enjoy it on other devices.

From "Eyes of the Pines"
Still clutching his phone, Ryan remembered that he'd received an erroneous text just yesterday. Unfortunately, his phone number had many repetitive numbers and this seemed to happen often. When the phone binged again, he assumed that the person was going to apologize for the mistake but instead, it read: i know who u r
Maybe the person was clarifying that he or she had the correct number but Ryan couldn't help but feel like the message also had a sinister quality to it. He had no enemies and he was too much in a good mood to beat around the bush. Did he need to drag it out of the fellow? He was expecting a wonderful time in a log cabin with his girl so it was with sarcasm and giddiness that he texted back: im the ripper
There. I'll see how he likes that.
With a speed that astonished him, a reply came back: i mean it i am watching u
Ryan thought it was a strange response. He glided the car through a winding curve while he contemplated what to do next. Maybe it's a joke. Though the number was not recognizable, it was from the 520 area, which is Tucson and maybe it was Nick or even Aisha pranking him, knowing full well that he was on his way. Nick especially liked to joke around. Ryan clearly remembered one time when he'd placed a fake spider in the teacher's desk drawer and how her little scream had made the students jump. There was an insidious slant to the second half of the message that he found hard to ignore though, which repeated in his head. Certainly, there is nobody watching me here, he thought as he looked from the tangle of trunks up to the ridge line high above as if to check for people with binoculars. It was just him, his Great Dane and his hunk of plastic on wheels.
