Koolura padded into the empty bathroom. With no one in sight, she hooked her mind around the bar of soap three feet away willing it to float toward her. But nothing happened. She focused on the faucet over the sink to turn it on, but no water appeared. Panic filled her mind.
What’s the matter? I was able to do it last night.
Koolura tried to float, but remained anchored to the bathroom floor as if lead filled her PJ’s.
Stunned, Koolura thought, Oh my God, what’s the matter with me? I lost my powers.

Koolura Akopyan – aka Kool – is a 12-year old with super powers. She is able to teleport and she can levitate objects and move them with her mind. She can also fly. In Book Two of the Koolura Series, Kool and her best friend Linda spend the summer at Camp Saddleback. Right away Kool notices a weakening of her super powers. She doesn’t know what’s causing the problem but her investigation is interrupted. The boys’ camp is across the lake and when the girls’ cabins get toilet papered one night, a war of pranks breaks out between the two camps. It’s all fun and games until a prank turns ugly and a camper gets hurt. Kool must get to the bottom of the evil mischief before anyone else becomes a victim, while at the same time dealing with some glitches in her super powers. Michael L. Thal created this delightful tween in the first book, The Legend of Koolura, and this second part of the series is just as charming and innovative. Each chapter is a new road in an adventure where Koolura is on her own, without her dad nearby. Thal approaches subjects such as taking on new and sometimes frightening experiences, a guy who doesn't know his limits, and learning to communicate with a deaf child. All of this is done in such a friendly way that the reader will be eager to take away these important life lessons.
As with the first book, the characters take on each new experience with some trepidation, a lot of enthusiasm, and in a way to involve readers. The plot moves seamlessly from one moment to the next, always giving just enough of what's expected to whet the appetite. All in all, I highly recommend this fast-paced read for all pre-teens, be they a boy or a girl.

Whether you've read the first Koolura book or not, this book is for you! Koolura is back with new and exciting powers, but this time she's discovering them at summer camp. For me, camp brings back many amazing nostalgic memories, which Thal was able to elicit in his extremely well written novel. I would most definitely recommend this book, especially to those fascinated with the super natural and a strong affinity to your childhood memories.
