This book is about my journey into the darkest horror that one could ever imagine living through. I came through it scarred physically and emotionally, but I survived and am thankful to be alive.
In 1999, I met a man who I thought was a Knight in White Shining Armor. Little did I know at the time, but he was the Devil in disguise. At the time that I met him, I had a very active social life and many outstanding friends. Not long after meeting him, my life vanished into thin air. I became someone else for over 5 years. I lived in a surreal living horror which I thought I would never escape from. For many years now, I have had nightmares after what I experienced from my relationship with this man. I still find myself locking myself away from social situations and seldom ever leaving my house out of fear of the threats that my abuser still, to this day makes from time to time. Today, I am simply thankful to God and to the friends that I had during the worst of times who helped me to gain the strength to escape from him and the insanity and brutality that came with him. I fear for all people who find themselves in an abusive relationship, and I hope that just as I was finally able to, that they too are able to get out and escape. Abusers don’t change no matter how hard we pray they will. No matter how many times we beg them or tell them we love them. The only change they will do is to get worse. It hasn’t been easy for me to write about the things I went through, and there are literally thousands of things which I didn’t write about that were more severe and brutal than the ones I mention in this short book. Those things I still have difficulty speaking about even in my own mind. What you’re about to read is a true account of how I was abused by a man whom I once considered a beautiful and kind soul.
Excerpt
It's amazing how the mind works when one is facing their own death. The things that a person will say to try to save their life. I hated this man. This monster. There was no love in me for him. None whatsoever. Yet as he was
pouring the gasoline all over me, I was pleading with him. Telling him over and over that I loved him. That he was
everything to me, and that we were going to be happy and have our baby and that everything was going to be good.
Promising to make him happy. Promising to never hurt him. Hurt him. As if I could ever hurt this monster.

This book needs to be read by every man, woman and teenager, but especially for those that are in or have been in an abusive relationship. The author shares a very candid look into her life as a woman that was abused for 5 very long years.
Many of the things that she shares may be very difficult to read or to even comprehend what she went through, especially for those that have been in or are being abused, but it is a must read.
I cried as I read this book, my daughter was in an abusive relationship for several years and I did not know it until about the last year of her relationship. I always wondered why she kept going back time and time again, putting herself and her two sons, my grandchildren in this situation. No matter how hard I tried to convince her that she needed to leave, she would go back. After reading this book, I understand now why she did what she did.
We as a society MUST help to put an end to Domestic Violence, this can not be tolerated. If we see it, we need to report it, no one and I mean no one needs to stand for being abused by anyone at anytime.
I am so grateful to Angela for sharing her story in hopes that the words and experiences that she shares may help someone else. I commend her for her courage and I pray that she will one day find the peace that she so deserves.

Oh wow. Just wow. This story truly touched me in a very deep way. I myself spent 6 years in an abusive relationship that i had no escape from. This story was hard to read, in that in reminded me so much of my own experiences with my ex husband, and the fact that the author was able to put the abuse into words shows true strength. I have a lot of respect for the author. I can barely tell stories about it to people without cracking, so the fact that she was able to write this is very courageous. I would definitely recommed this book to anyone who has suffered or is suffering abuse. It is an eye opener, and I hope anyone going through similiar things will see this and know that no matter how dark it seems, there is always hope.
When I lived in California, I was married to a man that also seemed like my knight in shining armor. He was actually rescuing me from a previous relationship that while he wasn't physically abusive, he and his entire family were extrememly emotionally abusive, which in a lot of cases is just as scarring as if someone sliced your skin or punched your body. I thought it would be amazing because he was taking me away from all that and wanted to make things better, or so I thought. It turned into 6 years of almost daily abuse and spending more time than I am willing to admit chained in a closet. Much more happened that I am not strong enough to even put into words, even though it's been years.
Don't stand for abuse. Man or woman, you are better than that. You deserve someone who treats you like the amaing person you are, and nothing less. If they truly love you as much as they say, they will know that you are to be treasured.
