One night while attending the light, a shiver came over me that was not from the bitter, cold air blowing in from the sea. It was one of those feelings you just can't get away from. It stopped me in my tracks. I tried to shake it off, but it just wouldn't go away.
A sense of something important happening haunted me all night long.
When I tried to sleep in the morning, my sleep was restless.
I felt these feelings were important enough to note them in my log book for January 12, 1869.
I told my wife, Eleanor, about the event and she suggested that a chill from the wind had invaded the lens room.
"Don't worry, Lineal. If it is a message from heaven above, you will find out soon enough."
