Another summer filled with adventure and crime solving as Tom and Gary learn how to become real investigators. Some lessons are learned the hard way.

Tom and Gary snag another mystery to solve – on the end of their fishing line. Forming the Whole Gang in the Wall, they again help solve murder mysteries and reveal Wakefield’s best-kept secrets. As usual, they manage to get themselves into double trouble when evidence keeps disappearing without a trace.

Excerpt

Wakefield settled back into peaceful slumber as if the past year had never happened. If not for the two girls sitting next to us on the dock at Willow Lake drowning a couple of worms, I could easily convince myself that it had been only a bad dream. Yet, last summer changed my life in ways I never thought possible.
After the grand opening of the new Caldwell Theatre, now known as Bel Cantos House of Fine Arts, life in Wakefield slowly returned to routine. No matter how routine life may have become, Wakefield would never be the sleepy little town it once was.
Everyone in town seemed to know our names and often called us the Four Musketeers. Bel and Lisa loved to go everywhere with Gary and me. I wondered how much they enjoyed fishing, though.
Miss Olivier quit working at the public library to open a studio in her garage for teaching dancing. A waiting list for becoming one of her students reflected her love of the theatre, which seemed to infect the entire town of Wakefield. Upcoming performances became a topic of conversation in the market, doctor’s offices, and newspapers.
With summer almost over, we wanted to get all the fun-in-the-sun activities we could pack into each day. We spent most of our time either practicing for upcoming performances, picnicking, or fishing. No matter how I tried, my fear of deep water made my stomach twist into tight knots. As long as Gary and the girls were with me at the lake, I often forgot about my fear of the water.
“So, Gary,” I tugged on my line to see if a fish had taken the bait yet.
“What?” He cast another worm out into the water.
“When are you going to learn to dance in white tights?”
“Not this century.”
Lisa giggled while handing Gary her hook to put another worm on it.
“You put your own worm on.” Gary pretended to be stern with her.
“Please,” she batted her eyes.
“Girls…” he said while digging another worm out of the can and put it on her hook. “We have been fishing here all morning and hardly gotten a nibble.”
“Maybe we caught them all yesterday,” I said while noticing a small boat in the middle of the lake.
“Not all of them,” Bel started reeling in her line bending the pole from whatever she hooked. “Tom?” She gave me her pole.
We stood up to see what she had caught. As I reeled in the line, I wondered if she had caught a piece of deadwood because it did not act like any fish I ever caught. After a few more cranks of the line, we all burst into laughter.
“A boot?” Bel held it up for all to see. “Since when do fish wear boots?” She said in her innocent manner making us all laugh even harder.
After we stopped laughing, we each took a turn inspecting Bel’s catch of the day, a common old work boot. My dad wore similar boots for work, brown leather with laces.
Gary took the boot and held it up, “We should have it mounted.”
We lost it again except for Bel, who stared blankly at Gary.
“Mounted?” she asked.
“That’s when we nail it to a board and hang it on the wall for everyone to see the prize we caught.” Gary wiped away his tears from laughing and smeared dirt from the worm can across his face.
“Why would we want to do that?” Bel looked at the waterlogged boot again.
“I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting hungry,” Lisa reeled in her line. “There are still fish out there, that’s for sure,” she held up her empty hook.
