Finally he stopped and, careful not to crush the new bed of flowers, he climbed atop one tall stone. He teetered and almost fell, but gradually gained his balance.
Standing tall and straight, he spread his arms. Rain pelted his face and wind tore at his drenched clothes. In miniature rivulets the water ran down his arms, under his shirt and down his sides. He gave Susie a thin, dripping smile, and in a cracked and wild voice that rose above the wind and the storm, he sent out a call -- to the praying phantom, to the lost and hopeless souls sitting atop their stones, to the insubstantial things gibbering at the door of their vault.
