A wonderful book I couldn't put down
I finished this book last night and thought about it the rest of the night. I've read a lot of Holocaust stories but few have been able to put me in the heart of the action. The author weaves such beauty and such heartache out of her stories. At first I felt sorry for Manfred Blau since he was picked on and bullied in school. I didn't blame him for trying to rise as high as possible in the party, but he truly became the animal that identifies the Nazi party. Then there was a Jewish man who was as bad as the Nazis - this book showed me there are good and bad in every race and affiliation. I couldn't put this book down until I finished it. It was that good!
Best Sequel Ever
In this book, you will learn even more things that not many know about the Holocaust, things that are so shocking. Its a amazing read, and very promising. Roberta Kagan has the best talent to make you see the late 1930 through 1947 in a way that shows all. You will learn that not just Jews die, and learn about Action T4 and the Lebensborn also so much more.
Excellent and Gripping
I generally prefer non-fiction related to WW2 era but this was available with my prime membership and sounded interesting. The characters were well developed and the way their lives intertwined kept me totally engrossed. If you read a lot of books about the Holocaust you will certainly want to add this to your collection. The only downside to this was the editing. It was very distracting in places, so much in fact that several times I had to re-read portions to understand what was being said or happening, due to the massive amount of randomly placed commas and misspelled words (allowed rather than aloud). However, the story is well told and involves characters on both sides that are both good and evil.
