The EXACT workout I used to build the physique seen on the action/adventure series, "Conan"
This book was simply written to answer the one question people still ask me: What did I do to build the physique seen on the action/adventure television series?...
There are so many routines out there, and each one claims to be the best. There are no such promises or guarantees here, as I openly state that this book offers nothing more than the EXACT 20 week program I created to build the physique seen on the show, including the meal program (although the portions may be a bit off due to passing of time)...
This book is not intended as an instructional manual, nor does it claim my method will work for anyone else. I am simply answering the familiar question with a detailed insight into what worked for me.

Anyone who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s will probably remember the advertisements found in the back of comic books. Alng with X-Ray glasses, Sea Monkeys and Spud guns, were the muscle ads. Probably the most popular of these came from Charles Atlas, where a bully was shown, kicking sand in the face of a skinny guy.
Well I was one of the kids who answered it.
In fact, I answered as many of those ads as I could find. In real-life, I was a skinny kid, with narrow shoulders and wide hips. It wasn’t the best of times (for reasons not important to this book). While seemingly gregarious on the outside, my self-esteem was almost non-existent. Suffice to say, I desperately prayed that a solution to my turmoil could be found in one of the ads, and I tried everything. All of those colorful ads made outrageous claims, with each one being more dynamic and miraculous than the last. The fact that few, if any of these courses, ever produced the results they claimed made little difference to me. The method advertised, versus the physiques they produced, touched off a passion for finding obscure techniques that actually spawned results. I wanted to see what lived up to the hype and what didn’t pass muster.
What began as a simple hobby eventually became an all out obsession to find the so-called “secrets” to building a natural physique. The main problem is that every individual is completely different in their body composition, skeletal structure, muscular arrangement, fiber allotment and distribution, tendon and ligament strength, and overall genetic configuration. And yet, despite these differences and complexities, there are a few common denominators that allow us to formulate a strategy, which most anyone can benefit from, considering they have proper experience with progressive resistance training, and are familiar with the correct form and function of all basic equipment.
I look back on almost 40 years in the arena of physical development. In that time I have experimented with a plethora of training philosophies, supplementation and gadgets of every type, each one promising to deliver unbelievable results in an amazingly short time. The word ‘unbelievable’ turned out to be key in almost every single case. During my adventures, I have trained in gyms, been a personal trainer in them and managed quite a few. I wasn’t out to become a “bodybuilder” but I did envision the character with a physique that went far beyond what I possessed at the time. My ambition was to build a natural, “classic” physique, similar to those in the old Hercules films that I enjoyed as a child.
I would probably have been just another individual who held a passion for fitness, had it not been for my career as an actor in Hollywood. Training for assorted projects was one thing, but everything changed when I was a regular cast member on the action adventure television series “Conan” where I played the fierce, yet loyal sidekick named Zzeben.
People still ask me what I did, what I ate and how I trained to achieve the physique seen on the television series. This book makes no promises what-so-ever, as it holds no secret recipe, no mysterious training secrets or will try to pitch a gadget of any kind. As it states on the back cover, this isn’t rocket science.
I also make no claim that what I did will work for anyone else. This book was written only as an insight on what one individual (that would be me) did to attain a certain appearance, nothing more. Included is the entire training routine, the main food program and a few long-winded diatribes that went into formulating what I called Full Genetic Potential (FGP) training. Originally intended as a corny, tongue-in-cheek reference to what I was doing in the gym, the name stuck.
