Navy pilot Glen Tanner, MIA for nine years, was found by mercenaries sent to bring back some of the more than 1,200 men left behind in Vietnam when Americans pulled out. He hoped she could help bring Tanner out of his hideous nightmares which he painted on canvas with frenzied abandon. In the parking lot, she sucked in the frosty night air. She could still feel his touch, his hand on her back comforting her. For those who have been to war, the battle goes on long after the ride home. For those who have lost a spouse, the grief remains long after the burial. Suffering runs deep in both cases. Beyond the Moon is the journey two people take toward opening up and learning to love again in the midst of anguish.
Velda Brotherton is a master of creating interesting and believable characters, whether she is writing a historical tale or a modern-day story of struggle and romance such as this.
Though this is a big book, it doesn't feel long because you're caught up in the story. Brotherton's storytelling and character development skills set her high above many better known authors.
This is a deep and beautiful story, full of rage, torment, love, fear, and life-changing decisions.
