Gold Frame Romance
Gold Frame Romance

Category:  Fantasy
Type: Fiction

A story of werewolf romance. And the evil they have to fight.

Christa could not understand why she was so drawn to Evan Dane. It was just that he was so beautiful. The closer she got to him the more beautiful he was. But that surely was not why she was drawn to him. But when she found out what he was, a werewolf, she tried to run, in fear, but that infernal attraction simply wouldn’t let her. Nor would the fact that he was so kind and gentle.

Now what was she going to do? No one in her family, or her friends, ever heard of werewolves being real. It was all a myth, something to make fictional stories extra scary. But here he was, and to top it off, there were more of them. And their leader was the most beautiful of them all. And single. And powerful. Intelligent. And worst of all, he was attracted to her. What in the world was she going to do?

Excerpt

All my life, as far back as I can remember, I’ve been a skeptic. Scams abound everywhere. But at the same time, I’ve always believed in possibilities.
I’m deeply spiritual. Have a profound belief in God, but I shy away from religion. Since I became an adult I stopped going to church. The reason for my abdication is because I disagree with their rules. They’re too restrictive. I can’t imagine God telling people they can’t receive a sacrament because they don’t belong to a particular religion. Religions are good because they get in the way of a lot of evil. But they also get in the way of a lot of progress. And they can get in the way of people accepting others who are different.
That last part is what I have trouble with the most. That which oozes prejudice. I hate that. I cannot see any sense in it. Live and let live, for crying out loud. No one, anywhere, is perfect. Such has been my philosophy. Always. And I have found nothing as yet to challenge me successfully. But I’m only twenty years old, so there’s a better than good chance I’ll run into something that will. But we’ll see.
It’s been that sort of thing, though, that led me to explore the unusual. Things like crystals and psychics and myths. Most of it has been a load of crap. But there have been a few things, objects and people, that I believe are the real thing. In other words, they have proven themselves to me. And I believe in that proof because I can do a little of that myself. Psychic, that is. All my life I’ve been able to sense when something is about to happen. It’s just a small talent I have but it’s gotten me out of more than a few scrapes. I can’t explain what it is, I’ve never researched it. All I get is a feeling. No vision, no voices, just a feeling. And that feeling now is making me wonder why I’m thinking about all that at this time. Why I’m getting the feeling that the hair on the back of my neck wants to stand out.
It’s dark out now. I’ve been standing here at my bedroom window, watching and waiting for my father and brother to return. They’ve been out in the fields long enough. If there was anything out there, still hanging around, that was killing the cows, they surely would have found it by now.
Something has been killing the cows. Something big. And eating them, too, right there in the fields. And we’re not the only farmers around here who’s losing livestock. Howard Jones, north of us, has lost ten of his laying hens. Charlie Conrad, to the east, has lost a couple hogs. To something with razor sharp teeth and huge clawed feet. Footprints have been found in the mud. And all within the last three months. And all during the full moon.
