The beginning of the four and final Rubies Family Saga finds Stacey Walker putting her trust in psychiatrist, Gregg Phillips.
His unique method of hypnosis takes her back into the past where we see the revelation of abuse Stacey has suffered since childhood and how it follows into her marriage.
Introduction
The Present 1992
Gregg Phillips sat up in his chair and turned on the tape recording of his earlier visit with Stacey Walker.
“And so, Stacey, we left off last time with your sister’s illness. Apparently, it was an event that completely changed your life.”
“Yes, doctor. As you well know I never confronted Katherine for her drinking, and even after her episode in the hospital, I avoided the subject.”
“But if you knew she was an alcoholic and needed treatment, why did you not ask your family for help?”
“I didn’t want to hurt Katy anymore. I only ended up ruining my relationship with my daughter and making Gary angry.”
“But with your sister being so gravely ill, why was Gary Walker still a big part of your life?”
“Gary. The great Gary Walker will never go away.”
The only remaining sound on the tape was the soft weeping of his patient.
Phillips sat up and brushed his hands over his face. Thinking about Gary Walker was even causing him anxiety.
Perhaps he was frustrated because it was re- kindling the feelings of helplessness he had experienced with other soldiers after Viet Nam. He had never accepted the fact that so many lives were destroyed by such a senseless war.
Perhaps the only way to get to the truth would require an even stronger therapy.
Stacey blamed Viet Nam for the destruction of Gary’s character. She felt responsible for not being able to accept that change. But what if ---- what if Viet Nam had only escalated what had already existed – a man without a conscience.
