HOW TO GET STARTED?
I listed 10 most important hints that I regard as very necessary at the first steps towards your new habits. With the help of these 10 hints you are able to produce good results! I hope you also understand that it’s not all about changing your eating habits, but it’s also about changing your world of thinking. When you’re able to change your own thoughts to support your goals, you have already reached a permanent change.
You can explore many hints at the same time or you can always take just one hint and internalize it. In any case I recommend you to check out every hint and use time on thinking and internalizing them.
1) GET RID OF UNHEALTHY FOOD
Fewer temptations you have around you, less you collapse to them. It is important to empty all your closets and workstation during the first day so you don’t have any candy bars or chips around you when weak moment surprises. I recommend to take the trash bag in your hand and throw all unhealthy foods away. Give delicacies to your neighbor, donate it or throw them away, do what it takes to get them away from your hands! Remove also all foods that are made from unhealthy sources, for example, white bread, pastries, soft drinks and juices. If you have living partners who are not ready to give up their own delicacies, you can ask them to hide their delicacies or take them out of your home. It’s important that your environment supports your goals! If you continually think about the biscuits that are in your closet, you will tire your “self-control muscle” and fall to buy delicacies.
2) FILL YOUR CLOSETS WITH HEALTHY FOOD
When you have removed all unhealthy food, you can look from the example diet (part seven) what you should eat from now on. I always recommend buying food so much that there will be enough it for one week. This way you will avoid unnecessary shopping trips where you exposed to temptations. I also recommend that you prepare all meals ready to fridge so you can easily take them with you to work or school. Make sure that you have no excuse to eat unhealthy!
3) SET A GOAL!
When you’re starting to change your habits, you need to plan yourself a great goal! Great goal will help you manage forward even when you have the worst day of your life. It will be really difficult to reach good results if you don’t know what you’re reaching for. Therefore, I ask you to sit down and think about your goals. Write them down and put somewhere where you can see them daily. Why do you want to eat healthy? What kind of life you want to live after 6 months, a year or after 10 years? All those acts you make day by day will determine your future. You need to understand that if you’re overweight right now, you will gain more and more weight if you don’t change your habits. You might get cardiovascular diseases, such as diabetes type 2 or in the worst case you get a heart attack and die. So you have to understand that your habits need to change and with the help of good goals you are able to carry them out!
4) GET SUPPORTERS!
If you have people around you who support you in your ups and downs, take them to be part of your eating habits change process. Share your successes and failures. If they care about you, they will stand by you! You will also have overriding feeling about change because you have made it public. It would be embarrassing to fail, when so many people know about your desire to change. Instead, I recommend to keep your mouth shut to those people who are trying to discourage you. Their goal is to make you fail, so ignore them. Let them only notice the great results that you produce when weeks proceed. You don’t need to prove anything, your results will speak for you!
5) AVOID TEMPTATIONS DURING THE FIRST WEEKS AND MONTHS
During the first weeks and months you will be extremely susceptible to temptations so I recommend you to skip places where you can run into delicacies. Some places like this are the delicacy shelves, cafés or fast food restaurants. When time has elapsed for about 2-3 months, you already have strengthened your self-control so you’re able to refuse from delicacies easily. Before that, stay away from temptations! When temptation surprises, think about the bad feeling it brings you afterwards. You may enjoy it a few moments when the delicacy is in your mouth, but after that it’s a vexation and a nuisance in your body. It makes you feel awful and puffed. It makes your self-confidence go to the ground, because you were not able to stay tough. So is it worth it? No, it’s not!
6) FIGURE OUT WHY HAVE YOU EATEN UNHEALTHY?
When changing your eating habits, you also need to look backwards and think why you have eaten so unhealthy? Is your unhealthy habits coming from your childhood home or have some factors in your life led you to bad habits? For example, working in fast food restaurant increases the junk food eating or if you’re too busy in studying you don’t think you have time to check out the quality of your food? Think your habits and figure out where they’re coming from? When you have clarified the reason, it’s easier to continue forward. Often many people get comfort from food. You may have eaten before to your sorrow. Food has been the only matter that has brought comfort and your brain has got used to the fact that it fires a desire to eat if you’re sad, angry or even when you’re happy.
7) INTERNALISE THE CHANGE
Remember this: you need to make changes in your habits if you want to reach changes in your life! It’s important to realize that you’re not able to continue similarly as before if you want to achieve a healthy lifestyle. You have to change your habits and now you have to decide how much you’re ready to sacrifice your old habits so you can get a new once instead. Sacrificing can sound horrible and tearing, but when you look things in a bigger picture sacrifice isn’t so bad if you instead get a healthy and slim body, better self-esteem and cheery mind. In other words, if you sacrifice your unhealthy habits, you will receive healthy habits. Make a list of habits that you’re ready to give away so you can start living life that has lots of good in it!
8) WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM YOUR LIFE?
Often your closest ones can affect into your goals a lot. Your parents, friends or your nearest relatives may want to have certain matters from you and you will become blind to your own desires. It’s important to know, what do YOU want from your life? Try to close others voices away from your head and concentrate only thinking about yourself. Your own desires make matter! You don’t need to live the life of others, they can do it on their own. So if you want to lose weight or make other changes in your life, go for it!
9) DON’T BE TOO TIGHT TO YOURSELF!
Often you may try to seek the perfection with the first steps of change. You try to follow new advices faultlessly and you may file every spot. When you slip from the diet, you scold yourself into the worst chink of the world and may feel huge disappointment and depression. Even if you had followed your diet perfectly for the last two weeks you feel like the slip ruined everything. At this stage use common sense and think twice before you really bitch up the whole thing. One slip or even two don’t remove the good work of two weeks. Raise your head and stop feeling sorry for yourself! Life will put bumps on your road. You decide if you stay lying on the ground feeling sorry for yourself or do you get back up over and over again? Every failure is a new opportunity!
10) THE CHANGE LAST LONGER THAN JUST COUPLE OF WEEKS
You may set a goal that had due date only a couple weeks away. There’s nothing wrong with this goal, no, no. However, it’s good to realize that you’re dealing things that affect to the rest of your life, so why won’t you do it well? Why would you seek a slim essence only for next summer? Why wouldn’t you reach for it to the rest of your life? So think whether you want to live on a tight slimming diet for the next few weeks or would you like to take it a little bit calmer and internalize new healthy habits so you can enjoy them for the rest of your life? Tight diet doesn’t teach anything else than how you can hold a constant headache or hunger feeling without losing your mind (or maybe you lose it). With the flexible executed change you learn the golden middle road, how you can enjoy every now and then delicacies without causing any weight gaining. You can forget black and white thinking, it’s no use!
