Doing a research project, a lonely, heartbroken college student finds himself spending much time at a mall. During his time there he meets many interesting people, elves and, perhaps, the real Santa, who promises he’ll never be lonely again.
Jimmy's Christmas Present is a tale of love pursued. While completing a senior project for college, Jimmy runs into a mall elf that catches his eye and then his heart, but as luck would have it, each time he runs across the elfin girl, he can't seem to get out a coherent thought. And with Christmas at hand, she has no time to stay and chat. Jimmy is two years removed from his last relationship and is feeling that he might not find love again. But, while at the mall, Jimmy has happenstance meetings with two very attractive (non-elf) young women. The meetings give him hope but seemingly end quickly and without love. Or do they? During his time at the mall, Jimmy meets many interesting characters, including a crafty head-elf who seems to be one step ahead of him, and three helper elves, one of which becomes his guide, preparing Jimmy for a surreal meeting with Santa. Jimmy soon finds himself in a one-to-one talk with Saint Nicholas. During the chat, Santa reveals that Jimmy will meet the woman he is destined to meet, a Christmas present if you will. And so he does... Jimmy’s Christmas Present offers humor, love, and hope. The story, as well, gives the reader a brief look into real-life issues, both at home and in the community, but you won’t even know you there.
Jimmy's Christmas Present is a great read for teens, young and new adults, as well as all adults and any believers in that Christmas magic; and the promises of Santa. Jimmy's Christmas Present is another winner, and classic Christmas tale from JR Wirth.
Excerpt
Only a handful of shoppers seemed particularly self-indulgent and rude, which Jimmy felt was a switch from the ordinary. It was usually the other way around, with only a few in the crowd being courteous and polite. That was one of the great things about the Christmas season, no matter what financial situation people were in, they were generally in the spirit of goodwill, wishing everyone else a Merry Christmas, or the politically correct—“happy holidays.”
Jimmy stopped his march to take in the moment. Not because of the importance it may have had on his research, but to take in the holiday fanfare. Lights and ornaments jumped from every direction. Tall Christmas trees stood in the middle stores, while even taller trees stood in the middle of the aisles in-between; the place where shoppers moved about and planned their next encounter.
Each shopper meanwhile seemed to be wearing green, red, or blue, or some combination thereof. And it seemed as if the sound of jingling sleigh bells leaped from their boots. In the background, Christmas music rang from the rafters, while individual stores proudly streamed their own versions of the familiar Christmas songs.
“Yep,” Jimmy whispered. “That’s the sound. This is what it’s all about.”
