An impoverished Irish widow and former lover unite to construct, along with their benefactress, a workers paradise in the middle of 1890's Canada.
"The Visitor - An Unforgettable Saga" embodies all those qualities clothed in a historical fiction story.
Callum and Aislin Sheehan, having immigrated from Ireland in the year 1890 are sole owners of an isolated 200-acre Crown Concession miles by rural dirt roads from the nearest village. Callum dies and Aislin, only 26-years old and pregnant, finds herself facing a decision: return to a squalid life in Ireland or make her future in Ontario, Canada.
Dauntlessly, she decides to stay and carry on as best she can. Quite unexpectedly a visitor appears to help with the burdens of the farm who, with Aislin and an older friend and shrewd widow in the little town of Orillia, combine their innate abilities and hard work to create one of the most successful social industrial groups in Canada. How they achieved such personal and financial success, along with international recognition at the highest level, is detailed in such manner that the reader will find it difficult not to be caught up in this "rags to riches" story.
Excerpt
Surprisingly, it was not until the middle of the last week of October had there been any frost; unlike previous years when there had been light frost as early as the third week in September. Each day, the temperature felt lower than the day before and the sky seemed to threaten snow more frequently as each day passed; Aislin expected snow any day.
That is why she was so surprised when it did not occur until the third Sunday of November, it had always snowed before then; but, the real surprise, actually shock, came when she headed out to the barn, to begin her chores, after breakfast. As she stepped through the doorway into the snow-covered yard, she could not help but notice the snow between the cabin and the barn distinctly showed boot prints and horseshoe impressions; yet there was no person or horse in sight.
Her initial reaction was overwhelming panic…..she was alone, with no means of protecting herself. She spun around and went to re-enter the cabin and barricade the door; but then, she froze and turned back to face the yard…..how dare someone set foot on her property without an invitation…..if she backed down now, word was bound to get around and she would always feel vulnerable…..there was no point in delaying the inevitable.
“How dare you come on my property without being invited,” Aislin called out in a clear, strong, voice, “step out into the open and show yourself.”
“My god, you haven’t changed one bit…..in fact, you sound like you just got off the boat,” a male voice, with a slight laugh and a pronounced Irish accent, emanated from the barn, followed immediately, at the open barn door, the outline of a six-foot, two inch tall man.
