When Prince Duncan Caldwell discovers how exactly the heat works in a three-way pledge, he knows he’s in deep trouble. Not just because to eyes of the Hall he is as yet an unpledged man. Because when the urge inflames his body and mind, he has no choice except have sex with his two mates until the tide washes over. And knowing that only Lord Christopher Templeton and Lady Ylianor Templeton can assuage this burning need doesn’t help any, not since his attraction to them has been steadily increasing to a point of no return. A dangerous point where it’s consuming all of rationality and may very well be their downfall.
That’s just the beginning of Book 6 of the Virtus Saga, where nothing is as it seems, not since soul mates Prince Duncan Caldwell and Lord Christopher Templeton share a love that is unrivaled until a fateful knock on Ylianor Meyer’s dilapidated shack changes everything forever. This book picks up right where Book 5, The Pledge, Book 4, The Leader, Book 3, The Festival, Book 2, The Game, and Book 1, The Sex, leave off and plunges it all—the lust and the sex vortex, but also the gossip and the multiple partners. Mostly the unique connection laced with a jealousy and violence that are unknown to their world. Because this isn’t just another erotic dark fantasy series. This is the making of a trio. Of three remarkable characters that have to overcome their uncontrollable lust to face the truth about themselves and their planet, in order to defeat the darkness about to devour them. To be as one whilst three! That’s their real challenge. Because, if they can’t learn to share power and love in equal measures, how will they be able to ensure their world’s survival?

The way it all starts and progresses, nothing is as it seems. Soul-mates Prince Duncan Caldwell and Lord Christopher Templeton share a love that is unrivaled, until Duncan takes shelter in Ylianor Meyer's dilapidated shack. Ylianor has always loved Duncan, and while Duncan is attracted to her, she remains a servant—okay to bed, but not acceptable consort material. Unwilling to accept it, Ylianor vows she will do anything, even come head to head with his insufferable lover, to stay at his side.
But there is more going on than either of the three realize. Lord Arthur Fairchild, Leader of the High Council, knows his planet Sendar is doomed unless the predestined Hero steps in and blocks the darkness threatening to take over. And even if one person alone fits the bill, Arthur does the unthinkable—not only does he summon the Hero, but the Hero's consorts as well. Sendar needs these three special people to become fully aware of their powers and learn how to use them together. Sendar needs these three special people to work together above and beyond their personal issues. Sendar needs these three special people to become one whilst being three to make it through the difficult times ahead. If they do not, the Virtus which holds all of Sendar's secrets could destroy them all.
Excerpt
“Too bad.” Now he knew it was all an act—his look, his stench, his provocation—with Christopher Templeton wanting to pass off as the brat Richard had first known him. So Richard wanted to punish him. “Then I suppose you didn’t hear about your mate.”
“What about her?” Color drained from his face all of a sudden.
“She almost collapsed in the hallway and—”
“How is she?” Gone all pretense, the expression in the blue-gray eyes was so worried it went straight to Richard’s heart. “Is she hurt?” Straightening, he looked ready to bolt from the room.
“She’s fine now.” Sorry for having wanted to scare him, Richard squeezed his knee, in an attempt to detain him. “The leader got to her before anything bad happened.”
“Did he now?” Not convinced, Christopher sat on the edge.
“He did.” At the confirmation, the blond man seemed to calm down. “I know it from a very reliable source—Lady Hurst. She was with him, discussing business, when he dropped everything and rushed out to the hallway, where your mate was about to drop. He got to her just in time and then chased Cecilia away.”
“She mustn’t have been very happy, particularly if he stayed with my mate.”
“She was furious.” That Cecilia Hurst would have let Duncan Caldwell trample her was no news. “Especially because they stayed together the entire afternoon and, as far as I know, they’re still together.”
“Are they now?” This worsened Christopher’s mood, though he tried to hide it by gulping down a generous swill.
“Cecilia thought so.” Richard nodded. “She also thinks your mate might be pregnant—”
“What?” This time, the young man was really startled.
“Yeah, it’s how she explains her almost swoon.” Having caught Christopher’s full attention, Richard settled against the arm-stand.
“That’s absurd.”
“The leader didn’t think so either, but Cecilia is convinced of it.”
“She’s wrong!” Christopher scoffed, “I’m a healer. Do you think I wouldn’t know if my mate was with child?”
Well, he did have a point. “I suppose you would.” Though I don’t see you ready to become a father. “But you know how Cecilia is.”
“Jealous of sleeping beauty, to the point she eats her heart out whenever she’s around him.” Somehow, from the absent gaze and the dreamy tone, Richard felt the comment was not for him, rather something Christopher said to himself.
“Yeah…well…something like that.” He cleared his throat to recapture Christopher’s attention. “Anyway, she came to me right after it happened, saying the leader had thrown her out, even though your mate looked completely recovered to her, and she hadn’t finished discussing things with him. But one thing he said was that your mate will work with me to set up the horse force the leader has commissioned me.”
“Actually, it’s her idea.” Again, Chris did not seem too happy about the prospect.
“Really?” Shifting position, Richard faced him. “I thought it was his.”
“She’s the horse expert.” The ironic twist sounded bitter.
“I hadn’t realized Prince Caldwell favored her so much.”
“Yeah, me neither.” The last was so soft, Lord Ellis was not sure he heard correctly.
“He’s still a lot fairer than Arthur ever was.” Richard bent forward to stress his point. “You remember how little Lord Fairchild respected the chain of command, often going over your father’s head.” He chuckled at some of the incidents that came to his memory. “I remember James had to be very diplomatic, if he wanted anything done around here.” He chafed. “And he had to fight off all Arthur’s many favorites.” He peered at Christopher. “Though for the main one, he couldn’t do much.” His dry humor made the blond man suppress a laugh. “At least, with the new leader, no one has to do any guessing about who they are. And if there were any doubts, the scene on the dance floor cleared up matters once and for all.”
“I’m not one of his favorites.” Christopher snapped. “I love Duncan Caldwell. I have ever since I can remember.”
“You mean since your phase.”
“No, I mean since I first laid eyes on him as a mere eight-year-old.”
“Kind of young.” Richard attempted a smile that came out wrong. “I had no idea you met so young.”
“My father’s fault.” He raised his glass, as though wanting to toast James Templeton. “He and Charles Caldwell were phase mates, so he—”
“By the gods, you’re right!” Somehow, he had never made the connection. “How very strange that the sons should follow in their fathers’ footsteps.” He shook his head bewildered. “I never heard anyone else with quite the same history.”
“I doubt anyone else has our history,” Christopher spat. “We’re unique.”
“That’s an understatement.” Richard sighed wistfully. “At the Hall, nobody talks of anything else besides the two of you and…her.” He lowered his voice on the last word, unsure whether Christopher wanted to talk about it. Everyone knew how touchy he was about women, his in particular.
“Have to admit she’s unique, too.” Staring at the fire, Christopher sipped the rest of the wine. “To think I hated her with a vengeance, when I first met her.” Evidently taken by his recollections, his stare did not waver from the tall flames in front of him.
