Another Winning Malone Mystery
I waited to read Patricia Gligor's latest because having read her previous Malone mysteries, thought I'd enjoy, and I wanted the perfect time so I could read right through without interruption. Sorry I waited! Really liked the sister-sister interaction which was very nicely done, with affection, concern, minor conflict, and built upon their past. And the addition of Clara made the story even more enjoyable. I like unique and strong supporting characters, and Clara was just wonderful! The three crime-solving ladies made a great team, and I enjoyed going along on their crime solving adventure. The location definitely takes you away, and it was also very enjoyable sightseeing with Ann, Marnie, Clara and Davey and Danielle. Made me want to visit. Recommended reading if you want to take a nice trip with some delightful characters to lovely Fripp Island. As for the mystery part, hard to put down once started--you definitely want to figure out who did it!
Another great addition to a series
Mistaken Identity by Patricia Gligor was a delight to read. This mystery is character driven and held my interest throughout the story.
From sisters and two children to a feisty senior citizen, the characters are entertaining and will be long remembered. Put them all together in the middle of a mystery, and it’s even more memorable.
While on vacation with her children and her sister, Ann Malone goes out for an early morning walk on the beach and discovers the dead body of a newly married woman. Or is there more to finding the body than the death of a newlywed?
I highly recommend this book to mystery lovers and those who look for great characters in a story. Thank you Ms. Gligor for a wonderful story.
First-rate Mystery is a Great Read
Patricia Gligor’s latest novel is an absorbing and complex murder mystery that features well-developed main characters. You do not have to read the three previous mysteries in the Malone series to follow the current novel. However, if you do, you will find the current novel that much more enjoyable.
Ann Kern is vacationing with her sister, Marnie, a Charleston attorney, on Fripp Island, South Carolina, in July. Her children, Davey, six, and Danielle, eight, are enjoying the beach. Clara Brunner, an elderly widow and condo neighbor, tells the children a romantic ghost story involving Blackbeard the pirate. She knows all the local legends which adds to the scenic charm of the island.
When Ann finds a blond woman shot to death on the beach, she assumes it’s Jennifer Harrington, a newlywed bride. Although the face is gone, Ann remembers seeing the girl wearing the same gold locket. However, it is soon established that the murder victim is actually Allison Harrington, Jennifer’s step-mother. The two women looked a lot alike.
Ann, Marnie and Clara are interested in finding out who was really the intended victim and why. They examine means, motive and opportunity. There are a number of possible suspects: Jennifer’s new husband, Mark Hall, Jenny’s own mother and father, as well as Mark’s parents, Jenny’s ex-boyfriend, Tod, and her maid-of-honor, Sherri. Jenny herself might have had a motive if the intended victim was Alison.
A threatening note to Ann just convinces her that she should deepen the investigation. Detective Davies warns Ann to stop her amateur sleuthing. However, Ann won’t give up until she discovers the identity of the murderer. I highly recommend this novel to mystery fans who enjoy a good, satisfying read.
