From the beginning, Ariana had always felt that she was different, that she had little in common with those around her, and by the time she was seventeen, she knew that she was different.  She was seventeen when the vampires killed her father; seventeen when they tried to get to her that first time.  They'd tried, but they hadn't succeeeded and by the time she was eighteen, she was actively hunting them in return; hunting them and killing them.
