Prologue:
My unusual memory contains snippets of recall starting with nursing and crib confinement. Both neglect and abuse was extensive during these early months of life, continues throughout childhood, and are painfully remembered. My schizophrenic mother used smothering and physical violence to control normal but unwanted infant behaviors. I survived many such episodes, but two of my four sisters were sent to early graves. At two years of age I was pronounced dead by our family doctor and approached by angels to be taken to Heaven. I refused Heaven and consciously returned to my lifeless body, my heart started to beating, my breath returned, and my long journey to the pages of this story began.
