I was standing on the terrace when I heard my phone ring. Reaching behind me to the side table, I picked up the phone and was surprised to see who was on the call display
“This is unexpected. How are things in the Far East?”
“Things are quite hectic right now. The best part about being here though is everyone works on my timetable. I don’t have to wait for anyone at all. How are things up there? The move went smoothly?”
“Yeah, everything is alright. I think my biggest problem right now is I am bored. I have nothing to occupy my time at the moment. I have spent the last week and a half just people watching and roaming around the apartment.”
“Well, I am about to change that for you. I need your help.”
“OK, what’s up?” I was quite curious. He hasn’t asked me for any favors in a very long time. So to be asking me for a favor now is not like him.
“I need you to attend a museum benefactor’s gala tomorrow night at the local museum. Naturally I was supposed to be back in time to attend myself, but as you can see...”
“Yeah I get you. Don’t worry about a thing, I’ll be there. It’ll give me an excuse to bust out my penguin suit. But I do have one question for you. What is so special about the museum?” Laughing slightly, he answered my question. “What is special is that a lot of the displays have pieces from my personal collection. You’ll get a better understanding as well as a trip down memory lane when you‘re at the party tomorrow night. Enjoy yourself; I know how much you love Ancient History.
Oh and try to not make me look bad hmmm?” I smirked. I knew that last sentence was a joke. No one could make him look bad even if they tried.
“You're a barrel of laughs Caleb, I highly doubt that. When are you returning to town again?”
“I’ll be back in a couple of weeks, if all goes well. If things go south, I could be here up to another two months. It’ll depend on how much the Japanese executives want to be assholes about this deal. But I have to run for now. Remember; play nice at the party tomorrow night. I’ll talk to you in a few days.” I hung up the phone with him feeling a bit more excited about this supposed gala tomorrow night. I just hope that it’s not filled with stuffy old men who think that they know everything about being wealthy. I might just have to put those “men” in their places.
