Can a smart, attractive, workaholic single woman find true love after 40? Or will she have to settle for the company of dogs?
Kate is a burnt-out book editor, whose life is in dire need of a new plot. Too busy keeping nose to the grindstone to worry about her non-existent social life, she wakes up on her birthday to find herself alone, over-40 and lonely. Like many before her, she is driven to searching for love on the Internet. There she encounters several daunting challenges – chief among them, the unsuitable spectrum of men who cross her inbox, and the clash between their value systems and her own. She also has her eyes opened to certain aspects of herself that she’d rather not know about.
Kate is forced to acknowledge some painful home truths: in order to find the love she longs for, she first must let go of her own destructive patterns.
Fortunately for her, it’s nothing that the love of a good … dog can’t fix. It’s when a small puppy arrives unexpectedly in her life, courtesy of a deceased author, that change is finally set in motion. Kate must take the thorny journey of vulnerability and confront the real issues underlying her lonely state. Along the way she loses her heart, finds her mojo and realises that the map does not always lead as expected to the territory.
