Excerpt
It has been a few days since I have been to work; instead I have been enjoying a vacation trip with my family. Peter, John, and Eve have been enjoying the tropical zoo animals, as well as the water park we went to on the second day. Betty and I also enjoyed our tour of the local vineyards. It was a great vacation.
Today I just grabbed a quick coffee to go at Shirley’s Cafe on the way to work since I was running a bit late. I am going to find out what case Jim and I are going to begin working today. I hope it is nothing to crazy. I got to the station only two minutes early. This being the first day of the work week, and that we finished our case last week the captain has a new job for us.
When I got upstairs to my desk Captain Fire and Jim were waiting for me. “Nice of you to show up!” the captain said sarcastically as he got up. “Let’s go to my office for some privacy.” he remarked. We did just that, and I made sure to close the door as Captain Fire sat down.
“What I am about to tell you may seem strange, but it did actually occur. A woman was killed yesterday by a vampire, or blood sucking alien. This being also killed a man and his wife the day before yesterday as well. Luckily they did not have kids. I need you two to find out who has done this crime and arrest them as soon as possible. Here is the file, shut the door behind you.” Captain Fire said sternly.
We walked back to our desks and sat down. I said, “What do you think Jim, a vampire or an alien? I think that it is probably an alien, rather than some crazy vampire person, but we will see.” “Yeah, think about it; but let’s look at the crime scene photos and the crime scenes first.” Jim replied. “All right, let’s go to the family home first, and then to the bachelorette pad where the other lady was killed.” I said. “Let’s go check them out.” Jim replied as we got up to go get into our planetary vehicle.
It only took a moment for us to get to the Riley’s house and the place where Mr. and Mrs. Riley were found dead the day before yesterday. It is usually always easier to understand crime scene photos at the crime scene. It wasn’t the nicest neighborhood where the Riley’s lived, but it was okay.
We walked right in through the front door. The house looked normal enough. The bodies were found on the couch with the television left on. Both of them had blood sucked out of their necks until the body ceased to function and they were dead. “They didn’t find any alien prints in here. So it is probably not an alien. It is probably some crazy person practicing vampirism, trying to be a vampire.” Jim said.
Dallas attorney Stan Turner hates criminal law but has a propensity for attracting murder cases anyway. So, it's no big surprise when a simple attorney-ad-litem appointment in family court evolves into a complex murder trial.
