Excerpt
It was a beautiful morning as looked up into the sky outside to see the sun on one horizon and one of our two moons on the opposing horizon. I walked with my kids from our house down the street to send them through the neighborhood teletransportation unit to their schools. I teletransported through to come out by Shirley’s Cafe to get my coffee on the way to the police station. “Hey Jack! Are you working hard on a new case now? It was crazy how that “vampire” killed himself after he found you hot on his trail last week.” Don said with a smile as I was getting my coffee. “I will probably be on a new case today, but I won’t know what kind of case it is until I get to the station.” I said as I was on my way out of the cafe.
I took my usual route to the station and Jim was at our desks when I got there. “We have a wild case to work on this time. Let’s go to Chief Fire’s office to get it.” Jim said. “What kind of case is it?” I asked him. “It is a wild homicide, but I will let the chief tell you the rest.” Jim said as we were walking to the chief’s office.
“So, chief what have you got for us today?” I asked as we entered Chief Fire’s office. “We have had a couple of radical killings over the weekend that both resulted in partial disintegration of victims by chemicals rather than electromagnetic disintegrators. The scenes were very pungent smelling and disgusting to witness. We have a crazy killer on the loose that may be alien to our planet. This is probably not a fuman like us, so be careful and on the look out for an alien with killer instinct. Go check out both scenes and get back to me with your plan to catch this thing.” the chief said. “Okay chief, we will go have a look at the scenes.” Jim said as Chief Fire motioned us to the door. “Don’t let it hit you in the ass on the way out!” he said jokingly as we left the office.
I had the case file in hand as we went back to our desks. “Let’s go to the crime scenes and see what we have got.” I said just before we went to the garage to get into our planetary vehicle. “The first victim was a woman in a motel, but she was the second victim found. We should go to the Wix motel to see how pictures of that scene compare to it now.” I suggested on our way to the motel. “Yeah, but I don’t know if I will be able to stomach the second crime scene. I had a quick look at that part of the file earlier.” Jim replied as we pulled up to the Wix motel.
Room 17c was where Mellissa Hertly stayed for her trip down to Chingo from our inhabited moon where she lived. That moon has a paradise environment with longer days than on our planet. We got the room key from the front desk at the motel and went to the room. It still smelled horrendous when we got there. “Whoa! It stinks like a thousand babies with dirty diapers!” I exclaimed. “Yeah, it does smell like a giant pile of manure!” Jim replied.
