Several men were working around and inside the space plane. Jim stood for a few minutes and admired the craft, feeling proud that Mason had a part in its creation. He approached one of the men.
“Who are you, and what are you doing here?” the worker asked.
“Jim Darden. One of the people going up in this bird in a few hours.”
“You’re not allowed here. Leave now.”
Jim glanced around the cavernous hangar that housed other aircraft in different areas. He saw a desk and chair near the entrance. “May I sit at that desk? I don’t want to miss the flight."
“Yes, but don’t come near her again.”
Jim walked to the desk and sat down. He wished he had tried harder to get some sleep, because now, he couldn’t keep his eyes open. Several times he dozed off, only to waken with a start when someone came in or left. The third time he awoke, his gem came to life with a whir.
“They’re taking her out at six, special mission,” the speaker said. His words came in a shrill whisper that sounded like a whistle. Jim couldn’t see anyone talking, but the voice was coming from inside the hangar, almost as if it were being blown on the wind. Neither could he tell what language the person was using.
“Too bad it’ll end in failure. They’ll never find it.”
“No. They’ll never suspect anything, never look inside. Brilliant idea.”
Wide awake, Jim rose and slipped out the door.

Having read the first two books in this series, I was happy to see this one released. It kept up the characters, the pace, and the suspense just the way I love a book to do.
Never before have I enjoyed a book that included space beings, but I've come to expect believable ones from Donna Wittlif. A battle of good and evil that applies to all the creation of God...the heavens and the Earth.
Great read for all ages.
I never have read a book like this. It is a little science fictiony for my usual taste, but the characters are well developed and the action moves along quickly. I really enjoyed it.
