As the three friends made their way toward the dirt path, Steve turned on his flashlight app but told the others to keep theirs off. Too much light could draw attention. They approached the path and Steve shown his light down.Just as he suspected—muddy footprints.
“You were right,” Jenny said.
“What the heck was she doing out there in the middle of the night?” Matt asked.
“And where did the mud even come from? There’s no water out here.”
“I don’t know,” Steve said. “But, I intend to find out tomorrow.”
Suddenly, Steve felt a sharp pain on the back of his head and everything went dark.
